Club passion crosses the line in Derry

-

AND so it continues. Derry football’s capacity to confuse passion for acts of thuggery is limitless it would appear. Two weeks after a referee was assaulted after a club match, another brawl – this time in a reserve championship match between Slaughtneil and Ballinderry – has been captured and the image of players trying to clamber over the railings to attack supporters is a new low. Not that they were without provocation; with the soundtrack accompanying the footage, disturbing and disgusting. ‘Hey, number three you are a c**t, you are a c**t, ‘roars one female spectator. One club, one life and several reasons to be ashamed.
