Dublin offices of Airbnb targeted by protesters

- By Craig Hughes

ACTIVISTS temporarily occupied the offices of Airbnb in Dublin yesterday in the latest escalation of their campaign.

Members of the Take Back The City group entered the offices of the online short-term letting company on Hanover Quay in Dublin during a period of public access as part of Open House Dublin architecture event.

The group entered the building shortly after 11am and unveiled a ‘Take Back The City’ sign, staying there for two hours. In a statement, the activists said Airbnb had ‘colonised vast amounts’ of the city. It claimed that as of August 2018, there were 3,165 properties for rent on Airbnb in Dublin compared to 1,329 properties available for long-term rent on Daft.ie.

Take Back The City activists are currently occupying 41 Belvedere Place in Dublin 1, despite a High Court order to vacate the building.
