EU’s offer based on ‘a lie’

-

THE North was sold ‘a lie’ with ‘EU spin’ that it would have ‘the best of both worlds’ post-Brexit, DUP leader Arlene Foster has said.

In an opinion piece written for the Belfast Telegraph, Ms Foster said that in meetings with EU negotiator Michel Barnier, the deal on offer had been ‘unique’.

‘The EU spin on this offer suggested that Northern Ireland would have the best of both worlds – ie, we would have full access to the EU single market and full access to the UK single market,’ she wrote. ‘That was a lie. We would not.’

Under the plan, she wrote, Britain-based businesses would encounter ‘a barrier’ when they traded with the North.
