IRELAND RATINGS
DARREN RANDOLPH 6 After taking a whack in the chest was thankful for the post, and Harry Arter too, for saving him, before a smart stop in the final minutes. RICHARD KEOGH 6 Kept the captain’s armband from Wroclaw and seems to play better with the responsibility, even if his passing remains suspect. SHANE DUFFY 5 Outjumped by Kjaer and almost punished for giving the ball away late on. Booked for penalty box tumble at the death. KEVIN LONG 6 Another pylon defender who was solid under the high ball and no-nonsense when it was at his feet. O’Neill likes him. MATT DOHERTY 6 Was more restrained in an attacking sense than he has been for Wolves but gave little away defensively. Should be here to stay. JEFF HENDRICK 6 Played the whistle and incurred Danish wrath for doing so. A pity he didn’t score as it might have injected zip into the game. HARRY ARTER 6 Revved-up to leave an imprint, which he did to Danish shins. Soon shipped a booking but was in the right place to clear Kjaer’s header off the line. CALLUM O’DOWDA 5 Tried to run at the Danes a few times but got put in his box and was withdrawn at halftime. Suspicion is he is better on the wing. CYRUS CHRISTIE 6 Played out of position in central midfield and stuck to his task. Got forward to manage Ireland’s first shot on target in the 71st minute. JAMES McCLEAN 5 His best position is left-wing yet he didn’t get to play there last night, as he shifted from left wing-back to inside left. Late caution capped his night. SHANE LONG 6 Showed willingness as ever but has rarely prospered on his own in attack. When support finally arrived it was too late. SUBSTITUTES Enda Stevens Tidy and reliable when introduced and a definite leftback option for Tuesday. Callum Robinson Injected energy for the final 25 minutes. Should have been on earlier. Aiden O’Brien Wroclaw goal-hero not on long enough to be rated. DENMARK 6 Schmeichel 6, Dalsgaard 5, Kjaer 7, Jorgensen 6, Larsen 5, Braithwaite 6, Schone 6, Delaney 6, Sisto 7, Dolberg 6, Poulsen 6.
