Sale of 40 Garda stations netted just €3.1m

THE C&AG report into the Office of Public Works gives a detailed breakdown of payments received for decommissi­oned Garda stations around the country.

The sobering figures show that in some instances the State only received €6,000 for one former Garda station. Crossakiel Garda Station in Meath was sold and fetched a price just €6,000. Rathowen Garda Station in Westmeath sold for €15,000 and Labasheeda in Co. Clare sold for just €18,500.

Most of the 40 stations sold for less than €100,000. The total received from the sale of rural Garda stations was €3,104,000.
