Casey ‘struck a chord’: FF
PRESIDENTIAL hopeful Peter Casey has struck a chord with the public with his controversial comments on Travellers, according to a front-bench Fianna Fáil TD.
On Friday, Mr Casey temporarily suspended his presidential campaign to consider his position following condemnation of his comments on Travellers, who he described as ‘basically people camping on someone else’s land’.
Fianna Fáil TD Niall Collins said: ‘He has struck a chord – let’s not deny that.
‘Unfortunately, a lot of people have had negative experiences of the Travelling community and Peter Casey has tapped into that.’
Mr Casey criticised a group of Travellers in Co. Tipperary, who have refused to move into a €1.7m six-house estate in Cabra Cross near Thurles because there is no grazing land for their horses.
