A dire voting record

- By Michael O’Farrell

Sinn Féin’s Liadh ní Riada has the worst voting record of any irish MEP with the exception of an ill Fianna Fáil representative.

in all, according to EU monitoring service votewatch.eu Ms ní Riada has missed 1,563 of the 7,584 votes she could have attended since becoming an MEP in 2014.

This places her in 661st place out of all 751 MEPs. Only FF’s Brian Crowley, who has been ill and no longer attends parliament, has a poorer record among irish MEPs.

Ms ní Riada’s record can partly be explained by how busy she is with other EU business. Comparison website MEPranking.eu calculates that, voting aside, her overall activity ranking is 73rd out of 751 MEPs. This makes her the second busiest irish MEP after Mairéad McGuinness.

This score is attributed to the large amount of questions and opinions she submits to parliament.
