I mainline this US drama: it’s like Thirtysomething for millennials (I’ve just noticed one of the directors is Ken Olin, who played Michael Steadman in Thirtysomething). Now in its third season, it follows the lives of two parents and their three children, born on their father’s birthday. It’s more diverse than the Eighties classic but just as real and emotional. The sight of Chrissy Metz – all, what, 18 stone of her – naked on the bathroom scales is brave and beautiful. It’s skilfully written and funny, and there’s a great twist at the end of episode one...
