THE TRADE IS REVVING UP ITS 191 SALES

- Philip Nolan

IT might be only October, but already the motor trade is gearing up for the busy 191 sales period – and with imports now accounting for such a large percentage of the market, the deals on new cars will be better than ever.

Volkswagen and its Spanish cousin SEAT are first out of the traps with special offers. On the VW side, there is zero per cent finance on selected models, purchase contributions of up to €2,500 on some cars, and technology upgrade packages available across the range.

The cars that qualify for zero per cent finance through Volkswagen Bank are Golf and Golf Estate in Highline and RLine trim; Touran in Highline and R-Line; Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace in Highline and R-Line; and Passat Saloon and Estate in Highline.

R-Line previously was available as an add-on pack, but now becomes a trim line in its own right on Polo, T-Roc, Golf, Touran, Tiguan and Tiguan Allpsace.

This can bring significant savings of up to €1,066 on Tiguan compared to adding the options individually. All offers are available on cars purchased before December 31 for January delivery.

SEAT is offering finance through Volkswagen Bank at as little as 1.9% APR, but the big news here is scrappage of up to €5,000 against selected models, and savings on product packs of up to €1,826.

SEAT now has 23 dealers nationwide, where the 1.9% finance offer is available on the Ateca and Arona SUVs, as well as the ever-popular León and Ibiza.

As far as the scrappage offer goes, you can get up to €5,000 on the Leon range, €3,000 on the Ateca, €2,000 on the Ibiza, and €1,000 on the Arona.

Three-year service plans also are on offer for a very reasonable €299, while product packs also are discounted; the León SE pack, for example, now is available for €500, a saving of a whopping €1,825.

SEAT is aggressively chasing market share after a very successful 2018, when it hit a record high of 3 per cent of overall car sales, and increased sales of 18 per cent, thanks in so small part to the Arona and Ateca. The company’s third SUV, the Tarraco, arrives next February in five- and seven-seat options, though one suspects it will become competition mainly for its Skoda cousin, the Kodiaq.

Special offers will be raining down from all the car companies over the next few weeks, and I’ll keep you posted here.
