Racists’ Instagram slur against Meghan

- By Charlotte Wace

RACIST comments about Meghan Markle are littering Kensington Palace’s official Instagram site.

One message even appears to threaten the Duchess of Sussex. On a video of Meghan and Prince Harry in New Zealand during their tour, a contributor writes: ‘Soon it will be me who is next to Harry and Megssy will be gone.’ The message is followed by five emoji images of a kitchen knife.

Other posts accuse Meghan of bleaching her skin to look whiter, call her ‘tacky’ and ‘trashy’. Another message makes reference to ‘the ghetto’.

And despite Palace officials monitoring the site, which has seven million followers, many comments have remained uncensored for up to a week. Some followers have appealed to the palace to take down the vitriolic abuse, claiming to find it upsetting.

Last night media lawyer Yari Cohen said targeting the royal via her official page could increase the severity of any possible offence, ‘because the poster is assuming to a degree that she [the duchess] is going to be reading it.’

Kensington Palace refused to comment last night.
