An arrowing experience! Darts star claims he was blown off course by opponent’s ill wind
IN THE cut and thrust of professional sport, suffering defeat after playing a stinker is nothing out of the ordinary.
But the world of professional darts has been rocked by an allegation of unsporting, if not toxic, conduct during a match between Scottish two-time world champion Gary Anderson and Dutchman Wesley Harms. After losing the match 10-2 at the Grand Slam of Darts on Friday, Harms, 34, explained his substandard performance by accusing Anderson of breaking wind. But Anderson, 47, said any blame for a bad atmosphere must lie elsewhere. ‘He’s 1,010% wrong,’ he said. ‘I swear on my children’s lives it was not my fault. I had a bad stomach once on stage before and admitted it. So I’m not going to lie.’
With tongue firmly in cheek, Pro Darts Corporation chairman Barry Hearn said: ‘We’ve got to get to the bottom of this.’
