He fought the law... and won

-

EVERYBODY knew bits about the determined attempts to destroy Sgt Maurice McCabe but the whole sordid story was broadcast for posterity on RTÉ last week.

Every father’s worst nightmare is to be accused of child abuse, much more damning than being a murder suspect – but allegations of abusing your own children is the ultimate horror.

If it were a mistake it would be appalling but if the claims were false, it would be pure evil.

Against all the odds, Sgt McCabe prevailed – he fought the law and won against formidable odds. Maurice McCabe, his father Michael, his son Tom and his wife Lorraine are good and decent people – the sort who make living in Ireland a privilege. Hats off to Katie Hannon, producer Máire Kearney and editor Ray Roantree for a compelling narrative delivered with authority and style.
