Shock at Shane Lynch’s sweary Late Late rant

Lynch and RTÉ refuse to comment about Boyzone star’s foul outburst on Late Late

- By Niamh Walsh

RED-FACED RTÉ chiefs last night refused to comment on Boyzone star Shane Lynch’s expletive-laden response to a clip of the boyband’s well-aired Late Late Show debut performance.

Lynch launched into the profane attack on host Ryan Tubridy having arrived late to the show after a combination of UK work commitments, and travel delays including a missed flight.

Boyzone were on hand to promote their last tour after 25 years together and, as expected, Ryan played the infamous clip of their first time on Irish TV screens in 1993.

‘I busted my b ****** s to get here and you see that clip, you can shove it up your f***ing hole,’ he said, while making a rude hand gesture.

When Ryan Tubridy asked whether he could ‘see the humour in it’, Lynch added: ‘No. I don’t give a f***.’

Lynch’s choice words left viewers and host Ryan Tubridy shocked at his foul-mouthed rant, and also his apparent lack of humour about the clip.

Lynch was likely already in a foul mood as he he had been in the UK earlier on Friday for work, missed a flight, and was then delayed by various traffic restrictions around Dublin.

He looked slightly dishevelled as he joined his bandmates Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham and Keith Duffy for their chat with Tubs to drum up publicity ahead of their 25th reunion tour.

Asked for a comment about Lynch’s use of language and his erratic outburst yesterday, RTÉ declined to comment.

When pressed further and asked how many swear words or level of disrespect would be tolerated at the national broadcaster before they would be in a position to comment, the station still refused to comment.

However, when asked about the presence of a young child in the audience who was on the Late Late with his assistance dog, RTÉ insisted that the child had left the building before Lynch’s appearance.

‘Any kids were gone at that point. Audience is over 18 only. Kids are pop-ins for certain segments,’ a spokeswoman confirmed to the MoS. Lynch also refused to comment yesterday when contacted to see if he regretted anything about the appearance. But he was roundly slated on social media after his appearance. A Caroline Doody said on Twitter: ‘Hope @shanelynchlifeapologised to the 3 of you after the interview, always loved him but horrible attitude. Acted like a fool, not Tubridy’s fault, other 3 lads were embarrassed.’ A Suzie Jameson added: ‘And then Mr. Lynch went and ruined it... Ryan won’t have yee back... without that clip you guys might never have enjoyed the success you have. Hope you all had a word. If you can’t laugh at yourselves .... ’ Another user, identified as Tanyac.2016, said: ‘Shane ruined the interview with his disgusting language.’
