She’s not the first inhabitant to shake up royals!

IT WAS once home to Mohammed Abdul Karim, the controversial Indian attendant who caused friction at court during his 14 years of service for Queen Victoria.

Now Frogmore Cottage will become home to Meghan Markle – another foreigner shaking up the royal household.

The Grade II listed building, nestling in the picturesque grounds of the Windsor Estate, is on the site of Frogmore House, a 17th century manor and a royal residence since 1792.

Currently divided into five units for royal staff but uninhabited, it will be transformed for Harry and Meghan into a 10-bedroom family home with modern amenities.

Victoria loved Frogmore’s peaceful environment and it is said to have been her favourite retreat when she became a widow.

She installed Karim there and gave him the title ‘Munshi’ or teacher, much to the chagrin of other members of her household who felt superior to him.

The Mausoleum – where Victoria is buried with Prince Albert – is at Frogmore, as is the Royal Burial Ground, where Harry’s great-great uncle, the abdicated King Edward VIII, is buried with his wife Wallis Simpson.

Wallis preceded Meghan as the first American divorcee to marry into the royal family.

Last year, the Queen described Frogmore as holding ‘a special place in her family’s affection’.
