Kathryn’s bootcamp for bumps

- By Claire Scott and Niamh Walsh

IRELAND’S Fittest Family presenter Kathryn Thomas was accused of just wanting to be able to get back into her postpregnancy jeans when she posted videos online of herself exercising during her pregnancy.

But her experience of wanting to keep fit while expecting has seen her launch a step-by-step guide for mothers-to-be to keep what she calls ‘bump fit’. And in it she reveals that wanting to counteract contradictory online advice had inspired her to create the programme.

The RTÉ star, who exercised right up to her due date, is hoping she can encourage other expectant mothers to follow her lead with a new venture – KT Bump guide. Launched just this week, the online workout programme, which she is selling for €29.99, is a pregnancy workout guide which Kathryn herself followed while she was expecting.

Speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday after a hectic day working on Operation Transformation, which is due to return to our screens shortly, the new mother said: ‘I had to go all around the place looking for information when I was pregnant, and there’s so much mixed information out there. It can be daunting. So, I thought it would benefit women to have a place where they could get all of the right info together.

‘Myself and my personal trainer, Róisín, came up with this step-bystep guide. It’s a digital download, you can have it on your phone, you can have it on your laptop, and you can print it off and have a hard copy if you want.

‘It’s basically 30 minutes – three days a week and you can do as much or as little as you like, but you can be confident that what you’re doing is safe once you get clearance from your GP.’ Kathryn said she understands the difficulty for some women exercising during their pregnancies, as she struggled initially having had two miscarriages before giving birth to her now six-month-old daughter Ellie. ‘I got the all-clear from my obstetrician to do a bit of training because I had done it before, but for me, psychologically, I needed to get past everything that happened to us before. I took it easy for the first eight or nine weeks but then mentally, for me, I needed to do a bit of training because I’ve never not done it. ‘I wanted to have a really healthy pregnancy and be as strong as I could because all the research points to easier delivery in childbirth, less gestational diabetes, less aches and better sleep. The stronger you are, the better you will be at pushing a human being out of your body!’ The workout plan is on kathrynthomasofficial.com/kt-bump-fit/claire.scott @mailonsunday.ie
