Hare-port news that warmed our hearts

-

AS Storm Emma covered Ireland in a thick blanket of snow in March, hearts were warmed by one rescue at Dublin Airport.

Airport police officers and a German Shepherd dog called Lou rescued a leveret – a baby hare, pictured – on March 3, and brought it to safety and warmth, as temperatures fell below zero.

She was appropriately christened ‘Hare Emma’, under the airport’s ‘hare-port news’.

Sadly, on March 23, the airport was forced to issue another poignant tweet:

‘Unfortunately Hare Emma passed away in recent days. She was provided with the best care possible, based on expert advice. But sadly she didn’t make it. We’ll continue to work closely with the Irish National Parks and Wildlife Service re our native Irish hare population on the airport campus.’
