Probe fake FF text

IT is important that An Garda Síochána fully investigates the Fianna Fáil selection meeting in Co. Kildare. Last week, Brian Dooley was chosen to replace the disgraced Mark Dalton on the county council. Minutes before the meeting, a text message purportedly from the respected Martin Miley Jr urged members to vote for Mr Dooley. However, Mr Miley did not send the text and has referred the matter to gardaí and the communications regulator. As we have seen in recent elections around the world, technology is being exploited to distort and undermine our democratic norms. It would be complacent to assume Ireland is safe from such skulduggery. This troubling incident proves we are anything but, and reminds us why we must be vigilant against threats to our political processes.
