THE ADVANCED MARK: To extend the Mark to the catching of the ball inside a 45metre line from a kick in play (i.e. not from set-play) delivered on or beyond the other team’s 45-metre line. Ball must travel 20 metres.

A rule shouldn’t possess an advantage due to size. Just because you’re 6ft 6in and I’m 5ft 9in, why should that confer advantage? It does give a huge incentive to kick. For the sake of the game, worth a trial. It will change the whole continuity of play. Any kick forward from a good foot pass could lead to a free kick. I would have been in favour of it just inside the 20-metre line. It could cut out the player with the bit of flair who wants to go at the defence. How can one single referee monitor 19 metres as opposed to 20 metres. I can see carnage over the distance the ball travels. Say Galway’s Damien Comer (left) catches the ball cleanly, he can have four lads around him, trying to strip possession. So it does reward high fielding. It will encourage teams to kick it. If you can get a mark inside the scoring zone, you’ve 15 seconds to clip the ball over the bar. It will develop kicking skills.
