THE New Yorker magazine reported during the week that fans of Mariah Carey, pictured, had ‘mobilised the hashtag #JusticeFor­Glitter’ to defend Glitter, her historical­ly maligned album. It provoked a sharp Twitter response: ‘Perhaps not one to pursue in the UK.’

REBEL priest Fr Tony Flannery had an interestin­g story to relate online about the Connacht Senior Football club final between Corofin

(Galway) and Ballintubb­er (Mayo). ‘Ian Burke (Corofin) was in bed with flu, and cried off the team. His mother gave him “something”, felt better and went to match. Came on for 2nd half; turned game around and was Man of the Match. Anyone with flu in north Galway – go to Ian Burke’s mother for that “something”.’ For the record, Corofin won 2-10 to 1-9.

IN THE Dáil, Business Minister Heather Humphreys was talking about the need for job creation in the border region. She said she understood the region because ‘I was there yesterday’. She quickly added: ‘I live there.’

THE Taoiseach’s Twitter response to George Bush Sr’s death could hardly have been more perfunctor­y: ‘He was a notable President who left his mark on US politics.’ No doubt Leo couldn’t think straight about boring old geopolitic­s when he had tickets for Kylie…
