A 3K STRETCH OF NO-MAN’S LAND

-

1 Gardaí from Clones responding to an incident in the direction of Coleman’s Island cannot enter Northern Ireland and as a result must stop where the N54 meets the A3 on the border.

2 The criminal can travel the three kilometre stretch of the A3 till the road again meets the stretch of the N54 but it’s still an area gardaí cannot access.

3 This stretch of the N54 continues for 3.5 kilometres before the road again crosses into the North and becomes the A3. This is the stretch of road where the criminal is untouchable. Neither the gardaí nor the PSNI can enter this area.

4 T hree kilometres further along this road the criminal will again emerge on the N54, but this time in Co Cavan. Aside from different coloured road markings and speed signs in mph or kph, there is little else that would suggest you are travelling between two jurisdictions – or that you have passed through a no-man’s land for justice.
