Louth 1-6 Wexford 0-16

- By Philip Lanigan

A FIXTURE that was more significant for the fact that the new experimental rules were being trialled than for any indications about how 2019 will pan out for either side.

Despite Paul Curtis’ palmed early goal being disallowed because of the build-up including four handpasses – one more than the limit – Wexford deservedly took the spoils, four unanswered points in the run in to half-time giving them a cushion of 0-9 to 0-5.

While a mistake by Conor Swaine allowed Sam Mulroy in to find the net for Louth soon after the restart, the hosts could only add one more score.

Instead, it was Wexford who pulled away, Cathal Devereux making a big impact off the bench with three points and Kevin O’Grady finishing with the same tally. Jonathon Bealin’s placekicking was another feature of the Wexford victory.
