Pen­sioner killed in car crash

GAR­DAÍ are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses af­ter a man in his 70s died in a car crash.

The driver was killed af­ter his 4x4 ve­hi­cle left the road and struck a ditch on the R585 at Shan­laragh near Dun­man­way, Clon­akilty, shortly be­fore 11am.

The pen­sioner was pro­nounced dead at the scene a short time later. He was the sole oc­cu­pant of the ve­hi­cle.

The man’s body was re­moved to the mor­tu­ary at Uni­ver­sity Hos­pi­tal Cork and gar­daí ex­am­ined the ve­hi­cle and crash site. Any­one with in­for­ma­tion should call Clon­akilty Garda sta­tion on 023-8821570 or the Garda Con­fi­den­tial Line on 1800 666 111.
