Mrs O? She’s not qualified

The Irish Mail on Sunday - - COMMENT -

IT’S depressing to read that Michelle Obama is being tipped to run for the US presidency in 2020 (MoS, January 6).

This woman is no more deserving or suitable for the job than Donald Trump. Being married to a president is not a qualification.

The most powerful and important political job in the world needs an incumbent with plenty of experience in politics or in diplomacy. The late, lamented George Bush Sr is a perfect example. He was a congressman, head of the CIA, America’s top diplomat in China and a two-term vicepresident before he was elected to the presidency. That’s a proper CV for the job.

I fear that Trump’s unlikely success is going to encourage others whose only qualification is their fame to run for the top job. Trump has done enough damage. We need a man, or woman, with real experience. Mary Keoghan, Dublin 8.
