Church’s dark past
IN RESPONSE to letter from Sean Ó Domhnaill in praise of nuns (MoS letters, January 6), it has to be accepted that there have been a good number of admirable women of the cloth down the decades.
However, we should not forget the evil deeds perpetrated by so many wearers of habits on unfortunate adults and children in the dark years of the past. Such inhuman acts were highlighted in films such as The Magdalene Sisters and Philomena.
There are too many people in the Catholic Church in Ireland who prefer to imagine that such cruelty never existed.
