Searching (12A) ★★★★ is a thriller whose technique takes a little getting used to. Aneesh Chaganty’s entire picture plays out on computer screens.

John Cho (Star Trek’s Sulu) plays a widower whose daughter Margot (Michelle La) goes missing. When he hacks his way into her various social networking sites, he begins to reconstruct a private life he realises he knows nothing of. Searching is all plot. But as plots go, it’s a goodie. There are twists aplenty, and every one of them has you reeling. Get yourself the new Blu-ray of Otto Preminger’s 1944 masterpiece Laura (PG) ★★★★★. Gene Tierney (left) is the femme fatale, and Dana Andrews the cop on her tail. Enjoy.
