ANY parent whose children play Fortnite will know just how compulsive video games can be, so it comes as little surprise that psychiatrists here have started to treat children for addiction to gaming.

In extreme cases, children can spend 12 to 15 hours a day in a violent fantasy world, which leads to poor academic performance and the withdrawal from family and social life. The numbers involved are small, but they offer a stark warning to parents. Know what your children are playing – and set limits on screen time.
