McILROY HITS FORM

Rory in contention

-

took full advantage of easier scoring conditions yesterday to complete a fabulous 63 and leap into contention at the Genesis Open at LA’s Riviera.

McIlroy had six holes of his delayed second round to play in the morning and birdied four of them to improve on his opening 72 to move within four strokes of playing partner Justin Thomas, who shot 65 to share the early lead on 11 under with Australian Adam Scott.

However, the Riviera riddle goes on for Tiger Woods. At the biggest event in the game he has never won, he had to wait to see if he made the cut in the event he now hosts after rounds of 70 and 71. Seamus Power was level par. McIlroy (left) holed three putts over 20ft and said: ‘I’m really happy with that.’
