Dancing With The Stars behind-the-scenes show gets the axe

- By Fionnuala Moran

THE latest budget slash from the RTÉ schedule will see fewer sequins on our screens with The Dancing with the Stars spin-off show, Can’t Stop Dancing, getting axed.

Each week saw Bláthnaid Treacy go behind-thescenes of Dancing with the Stars to talk to the judges, the professional dancers and the stars on Can’t Stop Dancing.

Speaking about the decision, Bláthnaid said: ‘I’m disappointed that CSD isn’t coming back, I had an amazing three years fronting the show, but unfortunately due to very tight budgets it won’t be back. I’ll still be tuning in every Sunday to watch, it’s such an incredible production and I’m proud to have been part of it.’

Show boss, Shinawil’s Larry Bass told the MoS: ‘We shall miss Can’t Stop Dancing, but with the ongoing pressures on RTÉ revenues, there had to be some way of finding revenue for the main show.

‘It is sad that fans of the show will not get to share the backstage elements, but watch out for social around the series, we are ramping this up with RTÉ Social.’

The decision means we won’t be seeing Bláthnaid fronting the show but fans of the newlywed can catch her on the Today Show year round enjoying her new entertainment reporter role.

The Wicklow woman began her TV career aged three months, when she worked on Glenroe, playing one of Biddy’s and Miley’s daughters – a role which she held for 13 years.

‘Bláthnaid is a great talent, and we look forward to finding a way to work with her again, talent doesn’t grow on trees,’ Mr Bass said.
