Most smart-home devices have just one job to do. Smart thermostats and lights or even robotic hoovers automate just one thing. A new type of device though, ties together both smart-home gadgets and legacy electronics in your home.

The Smart Home Alarm from Minut is a discreet puck-shaped gadget that measures just 85mm.

Included in the box is a backing plate which can be removed. The plate can be attached by a screw to the ceiling or using the attached sticky back.

This gadget is truly wireless as it has a built-in battery that should power it for around six months. When it needs a charge, it can be removed from the ceiling and charged up using a USB cable.

The motion detector can be set to an alarm mode, so if you’re out you will receive a notification if someone enters your home.

As it monitors temperature and humidity, the alarm carries out mould risk analysis and will let you know if you need to address this.

The most innovative feature is the alarm’s ability to recognise other alarms. First you test, for instance your smoke detector or

C02 detector. The Minut can then monitor these sounds and notify you when an alarm has been triggered.

A hard-wired power supply option might have been a useful addition.

However, this gadget is a real revelation. Beautiful design and an excellent app help make this an ideal gadget. The Minut Smart Home Alarm is discreet
