Summer vibes

Cool down and glam up with this summer’s shades of ice-cream as strawberry, pistachio, blueberry and mint make their comeback on the catwalks, the streets and the beach

- COMPILED BY Aisling O’Loughlin

We may have to keep our distance in the icecream queue this summer but at least we can express our love of our favourite flavours through our clothes. Expect lots of pistachio, strawberry, mint, caramel, blueberry and lime shades as the warmer weather makes way for those ice-cream and sherbet hues to burst free once again.

In fairness, we’ve become used to pastel shades year-round but there’s something about the optimism of spring and summer that shines a sunbeam on those rainbow shades. At Haute Couture Fashion Week Paris SS2020, supermodel Bella Hadid stepped out in a strapless ruffle gown by Alexandre Vaulthier with slouchy black boots to ensure the look wasn’t too sickly sweet. On the High Street, there’s plenty of choice to play with from Dorothy Perkins’ strawberry pink boilersuit to a buttered pecan blazer from M&Co. Those vanilla shades are also sticking around if you prefer to err on the side of caution.

We love Liza Koshy’s Dior ensemble (below centre) from Paris Fashion Week AW2020 for head to toe glamour.

Of course, you can take a scoop here and add a scoop there with complementary shades of mint and peach melba a winning combination for Kelani Asmus (left) at the Uncommon James launch party in LA.
