Johnson’s always had a Cummings plan in mind

THE Cummings and not-going-anywhere at No.10 Downing Street this week was pitted with political potholes for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to navigate.

Like many others, I rolled my eyes so hard at defiant Dom’s risible explanatio­n that he made a 100km round trip to the beauty spot of Barnard Castle with his young child strapped in the back – on what was coincident­ally his wife’s birthday –to ‘test his eyesight’ after a bout of Covid-19.

Dominic Cummings’ Rose Garden recitation, at the back of No.10, of his recent journey down memory lane was at best an inconceiva­ble excuse and at worst a tacit, albeit watered-down admission that he had breached the lockdown rules he himself helped draft and expected others to adhere to.

But while the British leader’s chief adviser did break the rules, which should have seen him ejected from his post, the fact remains that he is the driving force that has propelled Johnson to his position.
