GO FOR FLOWER POWER

Florals are the perfect antidote to rainy days and grey skies - this season team yours with boots for a more modern, edgier aesthetic

When it rains, wear florals — always a cheerful pick me up to combat grey weather. The little black dress has been pushed to the back of the wardrobe in favour of the LFD, little floral dress, this season as we strive for optimism after a strange summer 2020.

Kate Middleton may be too royal to go indecently short, but her Emilia Wickstead pink blossom shirt dress captures the spirit of floral dressing. Chin up, on we go. If we must wear masks, let’s wear pretty ones with watercolour flowers. Beauty is still everywhere.

On the spendy side, Aussie label Zimmerman’s Wavelength mini dress has just arrived at BTs at €795. This is a brand that holds its resale value so you could call it an ‘investment’ if questioned. Otherwise, there’s always Penneys for the budget friendly alternative.

One Irish celeb lover of the LFD is Laura Whitmore who made it her go-to look for her Love Island hosting duties. Combine your LFD with some clunky boots for a more modern, less girly effect. Business of Fashion says: ‘The popularity of the dress category is unlikely to wane. Instagram has helped to casualise what was previously reserved for smarter occasions like weddings, with influencers and stylists showing their followers how to style their dresses more casually.’ At Paris Fashion Week AW2020, street stylers turned up in force in their floral numbers. Their fashion statement clear: Keeping it sunny side up despite the gathering clouds.
