RARE OLD TIME
Kenny thrilled to be back in Dublin as he looks for ‘freshness’ against Finns
A NATIONS League victory over Finland at the Aviva Stadium today would complete ‘a great weekend’ for the Republic of Ireland, according to manager Stephen Kenny.
After Thursday’s 1-1 draw in Bulgaria, Kenny is targeting a maximum return from his first home game in his native Dublin.
‘From our point of view, if we came through these two games with four points it would be a great weekend,’ he said.
Kenny is set to ‘freshen up’ his team but will be wary of upsetting the balance as he builds towards the huge Euro 2020 play-off away to Slovakia next month.
‘There won’t be radical changes and we won’t be tricking around with the system, but at same time you need that injection of freshness,’ he said.
‘I’m making sure we’re exploring some options, to make sure we are covered come Slovakia next month. We need to know that.’
Kenny believes Ireland can kick on today with more improvement to come. ‘In a month’s time we’ll be even better,’ he vowed.
