Robert Downey Jr suited up again to play tycoon Tony Stark in the superhero sequel. This time, he’s battling against a Russian scientist and the knowledge that his own hi-tech armour is killing him.

A paramedic has to choose who to save first after a robbery at a convenienc­e store. Ten years later, the choice she made comes back to haunt her.

David Niven (above) stars in Powell and Pressburge­r’s superb Second World War drama. A pilot cheats death when his plane gets lost, but the powers that be aren’t best pleased.

It’s often hard to remember how fresh and funny Eddie Murphy (above) was in his early films, so here’s a reminder – an audacious comedy, with Murphy as the wisecracki­ng Detroit cop who heads west to investigat­e a pal’s murder.

Powell and Pressburge­r’s wartime satirical drama, starring Anton Walbrook, Deborah Kerr (above) and Roger Livesey, was considered controvers­ial in its day for having a sympatheti­c German character. Today, it is a much-adored British classic.

Dramatisat­ion of the German Operation Greif, during the Second World War, which saw English-speaking Wehrmacht soldiers attempting to sabotage the Allies. Van Johnson stars as Lt Hans von Kroner, who poses as Sgt Leonard Richardson.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) 12

◆ 9PM, E4 HHHH Benedict Cumberbatc­h brings gravitas as the villainous Khan (left), an alien supersoldi­er whom Trek fans will know from both the 1982 film and the original TV series. The pace and scale here are satisfying­ly fast and grand as Kirk, Spock and the crew face a moral dilemma.

Sequel to The Da Vinci Code adaptation, also directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks as academic Robert Langdon. He uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the Catholic Church after four candidates for the papacy are kidnapped.

Dealing candidly with sex, this drama is based on the memoir of poet Mark O’Brien, who was paralysed from the neck down. Wanting to lose his virginity, he hires a sex surrogate (Helen Hunt, right). Sensitivit­y and humour help to deal with a tricky subject.

It’s a spin-off from the Mystery Road TV series and the 2013 film.
