Son of Martin McGuinness disputes the star’s Late Late Show memory of 70s meeting at Bogside home

Jane Fonda’s ‘f iction movie’ about her visit to my father

THE son of Martin McGuinness has disputed a story told by Hollywood star Jane Fonda about a visit to his father’s home during which she claimed a bloodied body was carried into the house.

In a series of online comments after the interview was broadcast on Friday night, Fiachra McGuinness claimed Ms Fonda had dramatically embellished her visit.

Mr McGuinness shared a picture of

Ms Fonda smiling alongside his father on the day of her visit. ‘Jane Fonda telling a different story from the one that actually happened. Here she is happy enough with my father at his home. Bringing a fiction movie to the Bogside in Derry,’ he said.

Ms Fonda told the show she visited Mr McGuinness’s home in Derry in 1976, and that a bloodied body was carried into the kitchen.

‘We were looking for Gerry Adams and someone directed us to Martin McGuinness’s home. My son, Troy, was with us and he was about six years old or seven. I was married to the late Tom Hayden, who is Irish, so we were sitting in the living room and a body was carried in, bleeding a lot.’

Ms Fonda claims that her late husband put his hand into the blood of the body and showed it to his young son. And it was the Troubles, it was sort of shocking, and Tom put some of the blood on his fingers and he said to Troy, “Your forefathers, your forebears, your people”.’

Mr McGuinness Sr previously spoke about Ms Fonda’s visit to Marian Finucane. He recalled: ‘They stayed with us all day… It was clear she had a real interest in what was going on.’
