McGregor arrested by French police
FRENCH police arrested cage fighter Conor McGregor yesterday on suspicion of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure.
The 32-year-old was taken into custody by officers in Corsica who arrested him on his €3m yacht.
Representatives for Mr McGregor last night angrily denied any wrongdoing.
The mixed martial arts fighter has been on the French island since last month and was training to take part in a water bike challenge alongside Princess Charlene of Monaco. He was arrested just hours before the 176km race.
It was reported that a woman made the allegations to police following the incident in a bar in coastal town Calvi.
Mr McGregor was said to have been behaving inappropriately with women at the venue, say witnesses. One onlooker alleged he made obscene gestures. The French prosecutor’s office said in a statement: ‘Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr
Conor Anthony MacGregor [sic] was the subject of a hearing by the gendarmerie services.’
He was pictured on Friday night attending a lavish party in Calvi alongside his fiancée Dee Devlin, 33. The pair are away with their children, Conor Jr, three and Croia, one.
A representative of the star said he vehemently denied the allegations and had been released.
Last year, Mr McGregor was fined €1,000 for punching a man in a Dublin pub. In 2018 he was charged with assault and criminal mischief after police said he attacked a coach in New York carrying martial arts fighters. He pleaded guilty to a reduced disorderly conduct charge.
His legal representative in Corsica, Emmanuelle Ramon, told the news agency AFP that no
charges have been filed against the UFC star.
Ramon also described the complaint against McGregor as ‘abusive’. Separately, a representative for McGregor told TMZ Sports: ‘Conor McGregor vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct. He has been interviewed and released.’
Audie Attar, CEO of Paradigm Sports Management and business partner of Conor McGregor said: ‘I am irate and putting out a warning loud and clear: Conor McGregor is not and will not be a target for those seeking to score a headline or a payday.’
When contacted by the MoS, Mr McGregor’s Irish lawyer Graham Kenny declined to answer any questions in relation to the matter.
