Ireland’s Idah the hero for Norwich

- By Rob O’Halloran

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND striker Adam Idah scored the crucial goal for Norwich upon their return to Championship life with a 1-0 win away to Huddersfield.

The Corkman has endured a rapid rise to prominence having started up top for Stephen Kenny in recent Nations League clashes against Bulgaria and Finland.

While he failed to find the net in either international tie, Idah has got off to a perfect start in his club season.

The powerful forward benefited from generous play via his Finnish teammate Teemu Pukki, who took full advantage of some sloppy Huddersfield defending and the 19-year-old made no mistake when presented with the ball on a plate, drilling it into the back of the net.

It was the first time Idah has scored in the yellow of Norwich since January.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke revealed he lost his temper with Idah for his poor performances in training during the week

‘Adam will be in the spotlight after his goal and we’re delighted for him,’ said Farke.

‘But I will let you into a secret. I was not happy at all with Adam’s training this week. There was an outburst from me. But I wanted to show faith in him.

‘For me it was great to see Jordan Hugill at the end. He went straight to Adam to give him a hug - and the same with Teemu. Even though he (Hugill) is disappointed not to play, like Ben Gibson or Alex Tettey. ‘Michael McGovern came to me at the end of this game and said he had spoken to Adam as well. That is what I want from my experienced players in this group.’
