Completely change a room with a simple new addition that’s soft underfoot and won’t break the bank

Find your perfect rug

If there’s one thing that can instantly change a room with very little effort, it’s throwing down a new area rug. Investing in new furniture can involve a higher price tag and heavy lifting, and adding new smaller accessories might not make the impact you’re seeking. But a rug? A rug can really change a room at lightning speed.

However, I’ll share my own experience with a highmaintenance bedroom rug as the cautionary tale when you’re looking for your own.

Several times a week, I spend half an hour meticulously hoovering the shedding, lintcollecting floor covering, cursing it as I go.

And here is the real takeaway here: you cannot buy inexpensive rugs and expect to be satisfied, at least for long. In my case, it only took a week to commence my newfound rug hoovering hobby.

In my defence, I purchased the rug on clearance to test out a rug in our bedroom before committing to a more expensive option.

I wanted to make sure I liked the look and feel of having a rug where there previously wasn’t one.

Well, I can tell you it makes all the difference but it’s high time to find a more durable and lower maintenance option.

A designer once told me that rugs are one of the handful of home interior items that require a minimum spend of around €200-€300 for a reasonable size in order to guarantee quality that will last.

My clearance rug did not meet that threshold and I’ve vowed to find a replacement that doesn’t require so much of my time.

In my search for a more perfect rug, I’ve been drawn to more bold options that offer even more personality, from round rugs with geometric patterns to those with poppy prints.

If you have neutral furniture, a bold rug can be a great investment that adds softness underfoot while also completely transforming a room.
