COMEDIAN Tommy Tiernan is enjoying the well-earned fruits of his labours, with the latest accounts showing a return to the black, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.

His company, Mabinog Limited, has leapt from the red to the black with its 2019 accounts showing he has €686,294 ‘cash at bank’, up from €73,603 the previous year.

The accounts also detail that in 2018 Tiernan’s company was running at a loss of €171,447 but he has turned on his luck and he now retains a small profit of €50,757 and has no losses to his company name.

The comedian has more than money to smile about, as his

RTÉ Saturday night chat show has been such a success for the star and the broadcaster that it has been extended for an extra six weeks.

The first two series of the chat show aired on Thursday evenings, with the third series moving to the Saturday evening slot in 2019.

Tiernan has made a hugely successful transition from comedian to seasoned chat show host with his inimitable style of interviewing a variety of people.

He has garnered huge praise and bumper viewing figures for his unscripted take on the traditional chat show formula, which sees him go into every interview completely ‘cold’ with no idea who his interviewee will be.

His technique has been hailed as ‘insightful and irreverent’ and he has also been lauded for generating a guest list crafted from a cross-section of celebrity and society and is not reliant on the usual Irish celebrity suspect-list.

His February 6 show featuring rugby player Brian O’Driscoll and actor Stephen Rea, claimed a 34% share – the equivalent of 431,000 viewers.

On February 13, some 411,000 tuned in to watch author Marian Keyes, zookeeper Gerry Creighton and musician Dave Balfe.

On February 20, his show with singer Philomena Begley and actress Helen Behan pulled in 427,000 viewers, which represented a 36% share of the available audience.
