Interiors: Spruce up your bedroom
Be inspired by these looks to create a hotel-style boudoir with help from president of the Interiors Association, Jackie Carton
We’re digging deep at t h is point in 2021, looking for any possible way to encourage rest and relaxation while calming the frustration ongoing restrictions are causing. One way to encourage self-care that might yet be untouched in your home is to make adjustments to your bedroom.
On the hunt for bedroom inspiration, I checked in with
Jackie Carton of Carton Interiors and newly appointed President of the Interiors Association (theinteriorsassociation.ie) who offered easy to implement tips for improving your bedroom vibe.
While we might not be heading to a hotel for a while longer, the next best option is to recreate that hotel bedroom feeling in your own home. Carton said, ‘Having a relaxing sanctuary to retire to at the end of a busy day can really make a huge difference both to the quality of your sleep and the quality of your life.’ So how do you start when you want to bring hotel luxury to your own bedroom?
Carton suggested choosing a standout headboard that will dictate the style of the room. ‘Velvet always looks cosy and luxurious, and jewel colours add a sense of opulence.’ Once you’ve got the headboard, ‘choose layers of throws, bedlinen and cushions in luxurious textures,’ Carton recommended.
‘Wallpaper has made a comeback, so you should paper all walls, not just one,’ she explained. ‘If you’re feeling brave, you can design your room around a piece of artwork or a graphic wallpaper.’
Finally, make sure you’re considering storage and lighting. ‘Storage is vital to ensure a tidy, restful space, because we really can’t relax when we’re faced with clutter,’ she said. Lighting should be soft and subtle to make a bedroom as relaxing and luxurious as possible.
If you need a push to get your bedroom feeling more decadent, Carton recommended the services of fellow Interiors Association members, many of whom are giving online consultations to clients.
