Sister of Real IRA killer shot in home

- By Debbie McCann

THE sister of a Real IRA member, who murdered veteran criminal Eamon Kelly, was fighting for her life in hospital last night after she was shot in her Dublin home.

Sinéad Connolly, whose brother Seán Connolly pleaded guilty to murdering Eamon Kelly on Furry Park Road, Killester, Dublin, in 2012, was shot twice in her flat at Bluebell and was rushed to hospital.

A second man presented himself at St James’s Hospital with gunshot wounds and was also in a serious condition last night.

Three dissident republicans from Belfast were arrested and detained yesterday on suspicion of New IRA membership. One of those arrested is the son of a well-known senior republican.

No firearm had been recovered last night.

The incident took place at Bernard Curtis House, a flat complex in Bluebell in the south of the city at around 1pm.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

A source said the shooting is ‘baffling’ and gardaí are investigating if it there is a dissident republican link to the attack.
