MID-LIFE CRISIS? TALK TO FREDDIE

-

One of the themes addressed in this series is the mid-life crisis. The trio face it full-on – but in a rather unlikely way. ‘I thought they’d put us in open-neck shirts and medallions,’ says Paddy McGuinness. ‘But no. They made us do a triathlon, wearing wetsuits (right) – the most unflattering outfits in the world. It took so long to get them on we had to have a rest afterwards.’

Who felt the most pain? All fingers point to Freddie. ‘We should have called the mid-life crisis episode the Freddie Flintoff episode,’ jokes Paddy. ‘He ticked all the boxes.’ Freddie objects. ‘We turned it into more of a mid-life opportunity thing. It’s funny, you spend your life not being able to afford the things you want – cars, trainers – and then when you can afford them people say you’re too old for them. I say you’re not.’

So speaks the man who wore an earring for this series. ‘My daughter put it in. I hadn’t worn one for 20 years and the hole hadn’t healed up. Can you imagine if I’d had to go to Claire’s Accessories to have it redone?’
