GO FOR GOLD

Metallic hues have made a comeback on all the Fashion Week catwalks with a glamorous, bold nod to better days in the future

There was one metallic that glimmered brighter than the rest at the various virtual Fashion Weeks from New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Gold retained its number one spot, shimmering from the digital shows of Chanel, Valentino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Paul Costelloe, to name but a few.

We’re ready to create some golden moments again, the mood is bold and glamorous, if not a bit 80s naff.

More is definitely more for next season with in-your-face accessories taking the lead at Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Stella McCartney. Think Lady Gaga’s super-sized dove brooch from President Biden’s inauguration, the brainchild of fashion’s newest enfant terrible Daniel Roseberry, Schiaparelli’s artistic director.

At Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli opted for a strictly black and white colour palette, with the exception of gold beaming through the cracks intermittently for added drama.

During Versace’s digital offering, Bella Hadid showed off those ultra high hemlines to dizzying effect with matching Greca motif bandana to drive home the branding message.

‘I have realised that this is the future, the new way of communicating collections,’ says Donatella Versace.

‘Models are like actors, they bring the designs to life, just like when a performer portrays a character. During the filming of this show I saw how important it is to give the models time to “feel” the clothes they wear on the runway.’

Gold featured heavily in the collection, making it the fashionista’s favourite metallic for the foreseeable.
