● 2.20PM, CH4 ★★★ Johnny Depp voices the out-of-his-depth hero of this witty animated western. He’s a pet chameleon (left) who gets lost in the Mojave desert, where he, somewhat unsteadily, saddles up for adventure with both friends and foes. Sharp and witty enough for the whole family to enjoy.

The first instalment in an animated franchise that has yet to succumb to extinction, following the adventures of a bunch of prehistori­c pals. Here, Diego the sabre-toothed cat, woolly mammoth Manny and Sid the sloth overcome the worst of the weather to return a human baby to his tribe.

PREMIERE Thousands of camels were imported to Australia in the late 19th century, accompanie­d by their handlers. This western follows a young Afghan man as he and his camels escort an ailing gold thief (David Wenham) through the scorching outback.

Steve Guttenberg leads the hopeless trainee cops, including Kim Cattrall (above), who drive their instructor­s nuts. Somehow, they succeed in catching a few criminals in an enjoyable comedy that produced numerous sequels.

Andrew Garfield stars in this hard-hitting drama as an unemployed single father who is evicted, along with his mother (Laura Dern) from their home. Desperate for cash, he accepts a job with the ruthless businessma­n (Michael Shannon) who foreclosed on their property – but it means doing the same to other struggling families.

A big hit in its native New Zealand, Taika Waititi’s energetic comedy stars Julian Dennison (above) as the difficult youngster who is bounced around foster families until he finally finds a home. Sam Neill is the foster ‘uncle’ with whom he goes on the run.

Tom Cruise takes the lead as the hero of the books by Lee Child, an itinerant military man who here teams up with an attorney (Rosamund Pike, above, with Cruise) to take on a conspiracy and free a falsely accused man. The sequel is on Wednesday, 9pm, E4.

True-crime drama starring Emile Hirsch, Justin Timberlake and Olivia Wilde in a story of underage excess as rich kids live a life of crime, sex, drugs and, ultimately, murder.

Remake of the 1975 film Death Race

2000, from Paul W.S. Anderson (of Resident Evil fame). In a dystopian future, prisons earn income from gladiatori­al, to the-death car races. Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson and Ian McShane start revving their engines.

Goat (2016) 15 ◆

2.10AM, CH4 ★★★ Audiences will be familiar with US college fraterniti­es from countless goofy comedies, but this serious drama tells a very different story. Nick Jonas (right) attempts to guide his traumatise­d younger brother through the brutal initiation rituals of his frat house.

My Husband’s Deadly Past (2020) 12 ◆

Thriller, starring Sarah Butler as a woman who is plagued by strange dreams about a missing student and starts to fear that they mean she killed her. PREMIERE Sally Hawkins is terrific in this 1980s-set drama, as Jane, a woman living with schizophre­nia. We see the world through her eyes, and without judgment, as her family, especially her self-absorbed sister (Billie Piper, above) and mother (Penelope Wilton), mostly fail to understand or appreciate her.

Cop Land (1997) 18 ▲

This gritty crime drama has a fabulous cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Harvey Keitel. Stallone plays a suburban sheriff working on the edge of New York City, who becomes embroiled in high-stakes police corruption.

(1995) U ● 10.25PM, CH5 ★★★★ Ang Lee’s delightful adaptation of the Jane Austen novel about money, marriage and class in Regency England. Emma Thompson (above, who won an Oscar for her adapted screenplay) and Kate Winslet star as the Dashwood sisters.
