Wedding carnage!

Emmerdale’s in for an explosive – and deadly – week after Liv confronts Paul on the big day, says actress Isobel Steele

Paul’s long-awaited wedding to Mandy ends in horror this week when at least one villager is tragically killed. Ahead of the big day, Paul’s been trying to keep hidden his abuse of son Vinny and how he faked his own kidnapping for the ransom money. But Vinny’s on-off girlfriend Liv is on to Paul and risks her life during an angry confrontation.

‘Liv’s good at spotting when someone’s acting shifty and when she confronts Paul, she notices she’s pushing his buttons,’ says Isobel Steele, who plays Liv. ‘She realises this is her route to the evidence she’s searching for. After that there’s no changing her mind – she knows what happens next could lead to her demise.’

Isobel adds: ‘Of course I’d be sad if my time was up, but also satisfied that in my five years here I pushed myself and enjoyed it so much. I’d feel proud of what I’ve achieved.’

The week kicks off with a flashforward – someone is making a 999 emergency call before viewers see three injured locals in hospital beds. As the week unfolds we will find out who the occupants are and what’s happened to them... before tragedy strikes. Isobel says: ‘I’d describe this week as explosive – don’t miss it!’

Liv’s quest for the truth begins when Vinny (Bradley Johnson) dumps her for demanding to know who beat him up.

Believing Connor’s to blame, Liv gets her brother Aaron to kidnap him so Paul (Reece Dinsdale) can grill him. Guilty Paul comes up with a cock and bull story, and Connor escapes. But it doesn’t take Liv long to find out that Paul’s rotten and he staged his own kidnapping to con her out of her inheritance.

Their subsequent showdown leads to what is promised to be a huge stunt. ‘I’ve seen the footage and it’s brilliant,’ says Isobel, 20.

‘Filming this has been exhilarating, and as I’ve done very little this year, I was up for being tired!’

Isobel, who was almost cast in the role of Gabby, adds, ‘It’s been great working with Reece because you can ask him anything or we run through lines in our downtime. That’s a lot to ask when we are so busy, and I appreciate it.’

Whatever the future holds, Isobel says Emmerdale has ‘changed her life’. ‘It was surreal to get a role like this at such a young age.’

And she promises plenty more excitement in this storyline. ‘I can’t say who dies but the lives of all those involved will be changed. It’s going to lead to a lot more drama.’
