Beacon boss should quit after jabs offer to teachers, say 70%

IN THE WAKE OF REVELATIONS ABOUT THE HANDLING OF THE VACCINE AT THE BEACON HOSPITAL, SHOULD THE CEO RESIGN?

AN OVERWHELMING majority of people believe the boss of the Beacon Hospital should resign for giving Covid vaccines to teachers at his children’s private school.

And the wave of public distaste over his actions are sure to put even further pressure on CEO Michael Cullen as two separate inquiries get under way into how 20 teachers from St Gerard’s school in Bray, Co. Wicklow, came to be given vaccines at the private Dublin hospital.

Both the HSE and the board of the Beacon Hospital have ordered inquiries into the affair after a series of exposés in the Irish Mail on Sunday’s sister newspaper the Irish Daily Mail.

Separately, the VHI’s chief executive has stepped aside from his post at the health insurer after it ordered an investigation into his coronavirus vaccination at the Beacon Hospital. John O’Dwyer offered to step aside while the inquiry was ongoing and the VHI board agreed.

And this weekend a poll commissioned by the MoS shows that most people believe the hospital boss should lose his job.

Last month, the Irish Daily Mail revealed how Mr Cullen personally phoned teachers working at his children’s private school about getting the vaccine.

After receiving the call towards the end of the school day, up to 20 teachers then travelled to the private hospital where they were given the jab.

This week, when members of the public were asked by pollsters whether: ‘In the wake of revelations about the handling of the vaccine at the Beacon Hospital should the CEO resign?’ a whopping 70% said Yes, with 21% disagreeing.

Nine per cent of those polled said they did not know whether Mr Cullen should resign.
