A MURDER investigation has been launched after a mother-of-two was stabbed to death in front of her four-year-old boy yesterday, the Irish Mail on Sunday has learned.

Jennie Poole, 25, was found with serious injuries following an incident at an apartment on Melville Drive in Finglas yesterday afternoon.

A man in his 20s who was known to the victim was arrested soon after gardaí arrived and was being questioned at Finglas Garda Station.

Gardaí were called to the house shortly after 2pm when neighbours heard loud screams coming from the duplex property. As gardaí arrived, a man was jumping from the balcony and fleeing the scene.

Gardaí rushed inside the property to find Ms Poole, a mother of a seven-year-old girl and four-year-old boy, with serious stab wounds. Paramedics treated her at the scene and she was taken to Connolly Hospital but was pronounced dead.

The man was arrested a short time later.

The scene was last night preserved and specialists from the Garda Technical Bureau and Forensic Science Ireland conducted an examination.

Last night, friends and family paid tribute to the young mother on social media. One wrote: ‘Absolutely shocked, a childhood friend. Jennie Poole, you will get the best bed in heaven.

What a cruel world.’ A cousin said: ‘Heartbroken for my cousin 2 beautiful kids. Mammy took away from her babies. RIP Jennie Look after your babies.’

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 01 666 7500, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
