SMILES WORTH REMEMBERING

-

A MOTHER whose two children were murdered by their father has said she questions whether the law on naming children would have been changed as quickly if she and others like her hadn’t spoken out

Kathleen Chada’s sons Eoghan, 10, and Ruairi, five, were murdered by their father Sanjeev Chada on July 29, 2013. Earlier this year she gave permission to the Irish Mail on Sunday to use blurred pictures of her boys to highlight the absurdity of the Appeals Court ruling. Today we publish the image restored to its original state. This week she told how her faith in the legal system has been ‘shaken’ by the latest legal obstacle to be placed in her way.

‘I have had an education over the last while in the legal system. I am eight years almost down the road at this stage, it doesn’t get easier, it just changes, but you do get to a point where you wonder is it worth the fight,’ Kathleen told the MoS.

‘I question if I and others like me hadn’t spoken out, would it have changed so quickly? That is not right, it should not be for victims and families of victims that have to [fight that battle], but it is certainly my experience. It is how things change.’

October’s court ruling has been harder on more recently bereaved parents.

‘I think it has to have been harder for them in a way. I come at it from a slightly different way insofar as I have had the opportunity, so all of a sudden I went from being proudly able to talk about the boys and be very open in lots of ways to suddenly being gagged effectively.’
