McIlroy on a roll at Wells Fargo

Rory McIlroy (right) hit a rich vein of form as he scorched into the lead at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina yesterday. The Northern Irishman hit four birdies with no dropped shots on his outward nine, picking up shots on the third, fourth, seventh and eighth holes to reach the turn in 31. Solid pars on 10 and 11 saw the four-time major winner in a tie for the lead with American Gary Woodland on eight under. Ireland’s Seamus Power shot a third-round 75 to finish the day on five over while Open champion Shane Lowry was a shot further back on six over after also shooting 75.

Big-hitting Bryson DeChambeau is on one under after his 68.
