PICK OF THE DAY

-

The Shelter: Animal SOS

8.30PM, RTÉ ONE ★★★★ As well as being a vet, Elise (right) is also an Ireland international rugby player. There may not seem to be much crossover between the two jobs, but her sporting skills come in very handy in this episode, as she has to try to catch a goat before she can treat it. Hopefully, she won’t also be led on merry chase by a terrapin dumped in Dublin’s Grand Canal. Meanwhile, cattery care staff member Colm is being kept busy by a lost hairless cat known as Fluffy, and Tanya is feeling emotional as she deals with a surrendered terrier.

Inside Culture With Mary Beard

7.30PM, BBC2 ★★★ At the start of a new run of the arts series, the historian is joined by a heavyweight panel – including celebrated architect David Adjaye, artist Edmund de Waal and actor Jane Horrocks – to talk Covid.

Tom Allen’s Quizness

8PM, CH4 ★★★ The busiest man on television hosts a hilarious new quiz in which contestants’ general knowledge is put to the test for the chance to win €28,000.

The twist is that if they want to win it, they will need to prove their brains by looking daft.

Gardeners’ World

9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ At Longmeadow, Monty Don plants out his tomatoes and demystifies the myriad of different plant foods, while in Cornwall, we discover a garden designer with a unique approach to combining edible and ornamental plants.
